MNB establishes first business endowment for COTO Foundation

MALVERN -- College of the Ouachitas Foundation will soon be able to award the Malvern National Bank Endowed Scholarship annually.

The named endowed scholarship is the first received by a business to the College of the Ouachitas Foundation.

"MNB has had a long and close relationship with College of the Ouachitas since its formation many years ago as a technical college," Malvern National Bank President Mark Roberts said in a news release.

"COTO serves our community by providing an affordable avenue for an outstanding education as well as a means of assisting local business and industry to keep our community growing. I can't think of anything better for MNB to support."

Steve Rook, president of College of the Ouachitas, expressed his appreciation to the bank.

"We are so grateful for Malvern National Bank's generosity to COTO," he said. "MNB has been a valued supporter of the college since there was first talk about the need for a higher education presence in Hot Spring County in the 1960s. Through endowments like this, we can continue to provide rich educational experiences for our students, empowering them for a successful future in our ever-changing world."

According to the executive director of the College Foundation, Amber Childers, once the endowment is fully funded, a scholarship will be awarded in the name of the bank annually, in perpetuity.

The scholarship will be needs-based and the recipient may be either a new or current student with full-time enrollment status at College of the Ouachitas, and a graduate from a high school that participates in the MNB Academic Prime Program. Currently, those schools include Malvern, Glen Rose, Poyen, Magnet Cove, Sheridan, Ouachitas, Bismarck, Cutter Morning Star and Mountain Pine.

Anyone interested in more information on planned giving, establishing an endowment or other ways to support College of the Ouachitas, can call Childers at 501-332-0234, or email amber@coto.edu.
