A normal administration?

Dear editor:

We now have a president who is having to deal with legal cases involving Summer Zervos, Stormy Daniels, Karen McDougal, Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, etc., etc. Is this what we want? I am an independent voter who voted for change. But I don't want crazy. When is enough, enough?

When you have a president telling you not to believe what you are seeing and hearing, I think you have a problem. When a president changes "would" to "wouldn't" while speaking with Vladimir Putin at the Helsinki summit, you have a problem. When you have to create alternative facts, you have a problem. When you agree to separate children from families who are fugitives trying to immigrate to America, you have a problem.

Most of you have heard of the Magnitsky Act. The story behind it is covered in Bill Browder's book "The Red Notice." If you want to understand what Vladimir Putin is doing to Russia, you may want to peruse this book. John McCain and Hillary Clinton and others worked together, along with Bill Browder's two and one-half years of accumulated evidence, to bring this important legislation into being.

In short, Sergei Magnitsky was a tax lawyer who was imprisoned, beaten and died there because he tried to help expose the illegal fleecing acts by Russian oligarchs. The meeting in Trump Tower about Russian adoption was really a cruel attempt by Putin to get rid of the Magnitsky Act. This act, and its sanctions, prevent Russian oligarchs from having access to the illegal moneys they stashed in American banks. Money laundering, Russia and Trump have consequential links.

How can Americans get behind a president who regularly recognizes Vladimir Putin as a better leader than Barack Obama? Really? The annexation of Crimea, economic control by oligarchs and lack of free speech that Putin has allowed, exposes the direction he wants to take Russia. Why doesn't President Trump point out the significance of such grave realities? Vladimir wants the old Russia back.

During President Obama's presidency, there were efforts made to normalize and reset relations with Russia. Obama tried to bring about denuclearization agreements with Russia. If you side with Putin and Trump's views over Obama's, you haven't studied the recorded historical facts. Trump's ideas meld with Putin's.

In November elections, a majority of Americans will express their wishes. I have faith in the American people and am of the opinion that change will be brought about. In a democracy, the future is in our hands.

Donald Trump wants complete control, like the authoritarians he admires. If that is what you want, you can vote to continue his ideas.
