Self-deception

Dear editor:

This is a strong rebuttal of "Doc" Crawford's latest sickening liberal rant of a letter (Sunday, July 29)!

You started off by claiming that the conservative Christian letter writer "Rick" Cherry is the one who is blind instead of ultra-liberals like July Ladd.

Unfortunately, you and Ms. Ladd (and others like you) certainly appear to be badly self-deceived!

"Doc," you kept defending socialism throughout your letter while at the same time claiming that conservatives practically blamed socialism for every wrong there is. Not so! No indeed, for I pointed out that the socialistic, communistic liberals are also often guilty of going in a secular, ungodly direction. Many of these ills are more of a spiritual problem than one of political ideology!

"Doc," you claim that you are a Christian, but I have a hard time trying to understand how you then can argue for certain things that God clearly tells us (in the Bible) are wrong! Even though we are not saved by perfectly obeying all of God's laws, but by trusting in the perfect sacrifice of Christ's sacrificial death on the cross, that certainly doesn't mean that we can just go on sinning with no concern!

That is clearly stated in Romans 6:1, 2 -- "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! (Absolutely not! in another translation.) We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"

Here is what my NIV Bible commentary says: "If God loves to forgive, why not give Him more to forgive? If forgiveness is guaranteed, do we have the freedom to sin as much as we want? Paul's forceful answer is 'By no means'! Such an attitude -- deciding ahead of time to take advantage of God -- shows that a person does not understand the seriousness of sin. God's forgiveness does not make sin less serious; His Son's death for sin shows us the dreadful seriousness of sin. Jesus paid with His life so we could be forgiven. The availability of God's mercy must not become an excuse for careless living and moral laxness."

Now -- what wrongs am I referring to? In your last letter, you clearly advocated the right to love those of the same sex (gender). By "love," if you meant having sexual relations with the same sex, this is certainly not approved of by God in the Bible.

Look at Romans 1:26 and read it honestly. "God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

Is that not perfectly clear? Of course it is!

You have also continued to argue for a woman's "right" to murder (by abortion) her unborn baby!

Once more I refer you to God's clear answer (one of the Ten Commandments): Exodus 20:13 -- "You shall not murder."
